“ALL OUR RESOURCES"

TO DEFEAT COMMON FOE MAYOR OF INVERCARGILL'S I VIEW [ Per Press Association 1 INVERCARGILL. Dec. 20. "Ninety per cent, of the people of this part of New Zealand believe in the mobilisation of all our resource? —wealth and manpower—and it will surely eventuate.” declared the Mayor of Invercargill, Mr. J. R. Hanan, at a , civic farewell to the Southland members of the special military force tonight. "The men of the Special Force have not waited or held back in voluntarily offering their services tc the nation. They are worthy successors to the main body of New Zealanders who left our shores 25 years ago,” he said. "Their action may offer no material rewards, but they are blazing the trail, v-hich is an inspiration to us and a shining example to future generations.” Mr. Hanan said that the defeat of Germany would be no easy task, but although the cost might be high, all would hope that the peace treaty this time would be signed in Berlin. If it was signed in London they could safely assume that one of the German prizes of victory would be the incoriPoration of New Zealand in the third Reich. "Our part, therefore, must be I the maximum effort to subdue the common foe,” he added. "Great sacirifices will have to be made by the people of New Zealand. Pacifists, jCommunists and others who appear to ; as traitors. I think will be dealt with more firmly than ; n the last war."
