Association hold on Satuiday. , The meeting considered reports and 'estimates for painting and renovating the show building.--. The report reIvealed that ah the piles supporting the ■grandstand had rotted away in varyI ing degrees which would soon render . 'the building unsafe. Sandford, who was present on request in connection with the ' renovation of buildings, said he had ■ ascertained that special centennial ' show tickets could be obtained from I the Government free of cost. A sample (certificate was produced. . Mr. Sandford also, in view of lhe 1 fact that the 1940 show comprised part .of the local centennial celebrations. Mr. Hammond was cor- : dially thanked for hi.s offer, which it was agreed, would provide valuable (tuition for young farmers. . ' The meeting confirmed February 17. (1940, as the dale of the R.aetihi Ram (Fair'. The secretary submitted lhe print[er’s draft of the 1940 show schedule [which was approved. In general the ;schedule is the same as lasi year with 'several minor or consequental alterations. i The committee also discussed means 'of prividing an appropriate welcome [to foundation members who have been [elected honorary life members and 'who might be attending the show from ■distant parts of New Zealand. A decision was made to allott a special '.space in the grandstand for centennial life members. In addition Messrs. :(C. D Scarrow, F. Todd. A. W. Rubie, ‘Fred McNie and E. Buckley (with 'power to add) were aonointed as a I reception committee to meet centennial life members on their arrival and ■arrange for their entertainment durling the day. [ Mr. D. J. Berry announced that he .would present a £3 3s Cup to be won [outright and to be awarded (together With a special prize of £5 cash already ;donated bv Mr. H. J. Donnelly) to the (exhibitor gaining most points in' the 'Romney flock sheep classes. The aim to these two generous donors is to entourage healthy competition in the
class of sheep which comprise the Waimarino’s staple product, namely the Romney Cross breeding ewe. It should hardly be necessary to urge upon local farmers the advisability of making early arrangements to select animals to compete for these valuable prizes which are in addition to the usual prizes of £1 first and 10s second awarded in each class together with ’ certain special prizes.
