HOLIDAY CANDIDATES TUESDAY’S GALLOPS M |DI Horses engaged over the holiday in meetings had their preparations car- n< ried a stage further at Trentham on \ Tuesday morning. The weather was p. near perfect, a light mist lifting - v shortly after the work began. Practi- u . eally all the galloping was on the plough, which had been well watered n and was not as last as the week-end, Vs writes “Rangatira” in the Evening j s Post. A Tne most interesting trial was that | f of Beau Vile (S. Wnsoiu and Sieg-j tl mund (S. G. Robinson), who were as- I sociated over a mile. Duncan) and a Silver Rive?.- (A. J. Newnham) were 4together throughout a mile in .Imm. 245sec., the last half-mile in 52sec. h. Globe Trotter was not extended, ano (i the length of the trial suggests that q he might in the end take on Lae Ic longer distance at Awapuni on Satur- Ic day. P Dainty Sue (K. A. Carlyle), after a L slow lirot furlong and picked up by aPrediction (Newnham) al the six fur- olongs, ran a mile in Imin. 46sec., the 1. last six furlongs in Imin. 17sec. and the last half-mile in 52sec. Tne (< mare finished on the better. si Trench Law (A. Foster) shipped w away from Ruling Star (F. Warren) 0] at the end of a mile in Imin. 48sec., r£ the last half-mile in 53sec. Trebor 3. (P, Williams) was much too good for (] Galteemore (J. Lawler) over a mile in w Imin. 47sec., the last half-mile in j r 55sec., Galteemore being very disappointing. w Miss Appellant (R. Buckneil) beat (( Coronado (F. Boyer) by a couple of !c lengths over seven furlongs in Imm. 30sec., the last half-mile in 52scc. s j Acrobat (Robinson) linished better , r than Gothic (T. Biggs) in Imin. 31i s{ sec., the last half-mile in 52sec. Sig- w low (Duncan), under a hold, was a ..ngtn ahead of Cornardo (Newn- p. ham ) in Imin. 33sec., the final half in □4*sec. 0 - Pearl of Asia (Lawler) just failed to a catch Floral Robe (Williams) at the A close of six furlongs in Imin. IVsec., (( the last half-mile in olsec., but she was running on the better. Balgowlah (R. A. Hawkings) took Imin. 19sec., ( -, the last, half-mile in 54sec. Q Alunga (Foster) did the best live furlongs in Imin. 2sec., the last hall- p mile in 49isec. This gelding resumes racing on the second day at Awapuni. Hunting Squire (K. Etzel and Equity R took 51isec., and Lady Govern and the j r Hunting Song—Hulomee filly 52isec. d A smart three furlongs was return- r ed by Royal Portrait (Boyer) in easily b beating Piastre (E. Peglcy) in 35*sec. u On the two-year-old grass Crou- c pismo (Foster) linished better than o Beau Coureur (Wilson) over half a h mile in 49isec., but both appeared to have had enough. Maharajah (Biggs) did three furlongs in 40sec. Colfort (P. Burgess) was worked over six furlongs at three-quarter pace, sprinting home the last two fur- 1 longs. The two-year-olds Beau Ciel and Kaclina were given barrier prac- ( > tice, the latter being due to resume } racing on the final day at Awapuni, j when she should make her presence 1 felt among the fillies. Most of the Trentham horses accept- a ed for Manawatu will definitely be ,j going, but Hunting Squire is an ex- J ceptlon. The only additional riders announced are W. J. Mudford for Gothic j and R.
