“THE WIZARD OF OZ"

COMING TO WANGANUI. TECHNICOLOUR PHANTASY. Perhaps one of the most peculiar laws relating to the cinema in any country may- be found ih Montreal, Canada, where for the last 11 years those under 16 years of age have been forbidden to enter picture theatres. But for the first time the law was relaxed in order to allow the young people to see the Technicolour production “The Wizard of Oz.” Despite the weekly-change policy of Loew's Theatre in Montreal, the film was held over there for four weeks. As a result of this success, great pressure is being brought to bear to repeal the law. Wanganui audiences, both young and old, will have an opportunity of seeing “The Wizard of Oz” at the Majestic Theatre. It is photographed in Technicolour, and its huge cast includes such favourites as Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, and Billie Burke. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has bought an original story, "The Ghost Book,” by Chandler Sprague. Mrs. Cora Lane, mother of the Lane sisters, has been elected "America’s Most Intelligent Mother” by the American Women's Congress. At the same time, Rosemary Lane was chosen to represent the “Symbol of Tolerance” at the national ceremonies of the Council Against Intolerance.

After the “Switzerland” Ice Balle has toured New Zealand it will re turn to Australia and appear in a entirely new production. For the next few months, Rober Donat will be the screen’s busies actor. He is supposed, to make “Prid and Prejudice” in England will Norma Shearer, then he has to go t Hollywood to make a film with Hod; Lemarr, followed by "Ruined City, with Margaret Sullavan, which will b made in England.
