Misty rain fell throughout Tuesday morning's training at New Plymouth but it was of such a slight nature that neither the plough nor the trial grass, which were used for galloping, were in the least affected. On the trial grass Mountain Fox completed useful work by sprinting home the last three furlongs in 42seu. He was going very comfortably. The only other gallop on the tria. grass was performed by the two-year-olds Lucky Lulu and Army Girl, who sprinted down the straight after working around at fairly solid pace Moth moved freely. Leighon Rei worked attractively for a novice when she commenced froi’i the seven furlong post on the plough and was picked up at the five by Kernal Mint, the pair coming home very solidly to run the live ii. Imin. 4sec.. while Leighon Reis seven occupied Imin. 30 4-ssec. It was a good effort on the part of Leighon Rei who should be at home over a distance. Windsor Chief was never off the bit to run seven furlongs in Imi. . 37sec. He is to contest the Manawatu Cup on Saturday and has built up nicely since racing last. Glenthawn and Bay Dawn put plenty of dash into their work when covering six furlongs in Imin. 17se They went fast early to run the first half-mile in 50 3-ssec. Wynardo (Eley) gave an excellent display over two rounds of the schooling hurdles, jumping eight fences. High Test has gone amiss again and is unlikely to run over the holidays. The Illumination—Lady de Reske gelding from H. Dulieu’s stable ha.been named Last Match. Moriliad is the name claimed for the Iliad—Chief Marionette filly also trained by Dulieu. On Hawera Tracks. There was considerable activity a‘ Hawera on Tuesday morning when both the trial grass and the plough were used for galloping with the going excellent- Anong those to please most were Friesland, Kilometre, Ramleh and Ste.icil. The following gallops were down on the plough:— Chief Lord occupied 51 4-ssec. fo r half a mile. Fiancee displayed her usual dash to run five furlongs in Imin. 3sec. She is very well at present. While ’lie time was moderate. Friesland impressed by the manner in which he hit out. Kilometre again worked pleasingly to shade Prime Quality over six furlongs in Imin. 17 l-ssec. after running the first half-mile in 52ser Race Aw ay sprinted a couple of furlongs in 25sec. Race Cali was going evenly to cover six furlongs in Imin. 16 4-sse< Ramleh and Vai Pere completed three-quarter pacework by sprinting home the last three furlongs in 37?. sec. Ramleh has built up in condition and should be hard to heat at his first appearance over the holidays. Student Prime and Lickem covered half a mile in 51 3-ssec. The former is still a trifle scratchy. Split Second surprised by shading China Clipper over half a mile in 49 4-ssec. It was a useful sprint fo maiden.-. Sunfire ran away’ from Biden.- at the end of five furlongs in Imin 4sec. The former has not done a great deal of fast work but shows plenty of pace. The following gallops were on the grass :- Stencil revealed a good turn of speed by running half a mile in 49sec. Barry Boy and Red Myosotis were on terms during three furlongs in 38sec. Calliope had the measure of Vai Bay at the close of half a mile in 50 l-ssec. Lady Onal sprinted a couple of furlongs in 24 l-ssec. GOLDEN SHEILA AMISS AUCKLAND CUP CANDIDATE Golden Sheila strained a muscle when racing in the Te Awamutu Cup on Saturday, and this no doubt accounted for her poor display. Hei owner, Mr. A. Swney, stated on Monday morning that he was very doubtful whether she would be able to start in the Auckland Cup.
