RAIL TRAFFIC

FOR HOLIDAY PERIOD BOOKINGS VERY HEAVY SPECIAL TRAINS RUNNING Relief expresses will be run on many railway lines in .New Zealand to deal with the extra passenger accommodation during the Christmas and New Zealand holiday. Since the breaking-up of the schools passenger trains have been well patronised and bookings have been large. From to-morrow relief expresses will be running between Wellington and Wanganui and Wanganui and Wellington to relieve the New Plymouth expresses and the slower trains. These trains will continue until January 6 and have already been extensively booked. Friday and Saturday will be big days for travelling and accommodation on trains will be at a premium. Wanganui passengers to Wellington will have to travel on the relief trains as little room will be left on the New Plymouth expresses during the holiday period. Passenger traffic on the Wellington- Aramoho-New Plymouth rail-car service has been increasing steadily during the past week or so and bookings have now to be made some time ahead. The car has been booked out already for Friday night and Boxing Day night. The car has accommodation for 60 passengers and in addition limited room for standing passengers. On Friday night a special bus will be run from Wanganui to Wellington and there is a likelihood of two buses being run. Special buses will be run to other centres during the holidays to cope with the additional traffic. Relief trains will be run on the Auckland-Wellington Main Trunk line in addition to the Daylight Limited from to-morrow until December 27 inclusive and on New Year’s Day and the two following days. Already the accommodation is heavily taxed and one or two trains have been completely booked out. Bookings generally are reported to be heavier than usual and the indications are that a number of passengers will experience difficulty in securing accommodation. The relief train between Wanganui and Wellington in particular has been heavily booked already.
