LIFE INSURANCE MONEYS THE NEWBI RGH CASE | Per Press Asfiuclalion ] CHRISTCHURCH. Dec. 8. The protection afforded life insurance policies in debt claims applied in the case of Eric Pryce Newburgh, of Christchurch, bankrupt, who was killed accidentally a year after his declaration, according to a judgment delivered in the Supreme Court by Mr. Justice Northcroft this morning. There were eleven life insurance policies held by Newburgh. On some of these loans had been raised and some had lapsed. After deducting the loans. £2695 7s 7d could be cashed after Newburgh's dead. On Wednesday the administrator of Newburgh’s estate. R. L. Newburgh, claimed the money on behalf of himself, his two brothers, his sister and his mother, while the Official Assignee also claimed the money on the ground that it was not protected under the Life Insurance Act and should go to the creditors. His Honour held that the protection applied for the benefit of the estate for distribution among those entitled upon Newburgh s intestacy, the extent of the protection being £2OOO to be selected according to the rule laid down
