OBITUARY
MR. JAMES BI TTERS. The death occurred yesterday morning of Mr. James Butters, of Bell Street, a retired employee of the Wanganui City Council, on the staff of which he had been employed for 33 years prior to his retirement less than three years ago. Born at Sterling, Otago, in 1873, Mr. Butters came to Wanganui 45 years ago. He had been ailing in health for several months, and for the past five months had been an inmate of the Wanganui Public Hospital. A member of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows for upwards of half a century, Mr. Butters was a Past Grand' officer in the order, and his many acts of unostentatious charily on behalf of fellow members and also fellow employees on the City Council won for him the respect and esteem of ail with whom lie came in contact. He was also a member of the St. John’s and Suburban Workingmen's Club. Mr. Butters leaves a widow, two sons, Messrs. Alex Butters, of Wanganui East, and Donald Butters, of Patea, and two daughters, Mrs. W. Baxter, of Wanganui East, and Miss Peggy Butters, of Wanganui. A brother, Mr. Alex Butters, who was employed on the Wanganui City Corporation tramways staff, died recently. Mrs. R Kirkness, Gloucester
