LAWN TENNIS

WANGANUI EAST CLUB B TEAM lOR TO-DAV The following is the Wanganui East Lawn Tennis Club's B team to play St. John’s at St. John’s at 1.30 p.m. to-day:— Messrs. A. Walker (captain), A. S. Ambrose, D. Munro, G. Mullins, Mesclames Wilson, Mackie, Johnstone and Miss Allen.

nomination of the partner holding the greater interest, or alternatively in the partnership colours. When two or more partners have equal interests in the horse, one partner’s name only may appear in the race books as the owner, instead of the names of both or all the partners, which saves the registration of special pa rtncrsh i p col'ours. A trainer and one of his patrons will sometimes race a horse together under equal interests, using only the name and the colours of the trainer or of the patron. It is necessary lo distinguish such a partnership between a trainer and a. patron, undisclosed in the race book, though, of course, registered, from an agreement between a trainer and a patron for a percentage of a horse’s winnings exceeding 10 per cent, and under 50 per cent. Up to 10 per cent, no joint interest is created. Above 1U per cent, a joint interest has lo be registered, but the agreement is still not a strict partnership and the horse races only in the name of the patron, unless, of course, there is a 50-50 interest or an interest that is agreed to as constituting a partnership. An exception to the rule that no person with a less inteie.-.t than any other person in the running of a horse shall enter the horse for races is the case of a horse leased from its breeder, either as a foal or yearling, for the whole of its racing career. Sometimes in such cases the lessor, i.e., the breeder, retains an interest in the racing of the horse greater than that of the lessee, but the lessee is nevertheless permitted to enter the horse for its races. OPUNAKE’S CHANGE TO RACE AT HAIVERA DISTRICT COMMITTEE An application by the Opunake Racing Club that it be allowed to hold its annual meeting this season at Hawera was approved by the Taranaki District Committee on Tuesdaynight. * The meeting will be held on February 17, thus coming a week after the Egmont Racing Club meeting fixed for February 8 and 10. It was recommended by the District Committee that the change be for one year only.
