Miss Lyra Taylor, a New Zealander associate general secretary of th< Montreal Young Women’s Christiai 1 Association, will leave next month fo: Australia, having accepted the appointment of g/ieral secretary of the YAV.C.A. in Sydney, states a corres pond ent. Miss Taylor has been active in socia work in this city since she came here in 1929, first as a district secretary ii the Family Welfare Association, anc since 19.34 with the YAV.C.A. Foi some years, also, she has been a mem her of the faculty of the Montrea School of Social Work and has taker an important part in the teaching anc field work supervision of socia i workers. ! In December she expects to saii 'from Vancouver for New Zealand where she will visit friends for a short time, then proceed to Sydney, where she will take up her duties on February 1. The Sydney YAV.C.A. is a large establishment, owning three valuable properties. The central city building includes a transient hostel of 150 beds ,and all the administrative offices, alsc ithe club facilities, including a gymnasium and cafetaria. There is also a new residence housing 60 business girls and a summer holiday house on the South Coast. Miss Taylor was born in New Zealand and holds the degree of LL.B, from the New Zealand Unive.-sity. She spent four years in the United States, securing training and experience in social work and obtaining the degree of M.A. in social economics from the Johns Hopkins University. Much regret was expressed by board members, staff and girls using the Montreal YAV.C.A. at the resignation of Miss Taylor, because of the valuable contribution she has made to the work of the association here.
