PATEA. Miss Beryl Hill, Ha.nilton, has been | t the guest of Mrs. J. Petersen Junr. Miss Kura Gibson, Wellington, has , been visiting Patea. Miss Betty McCarty, Wellington, 1 has been on a short visit to Patea Miss Anderson, Hokianga, is the j guest of Mrs. J. N. Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Yylth, Auckland, have , been guests of Mrs. A. A. Carey. Mrs. S. Sarah has returned from Ohura and Taumarunui, , District officers of the A.O.F, Lodge . visited Patea last week, when the ' D.C.R. presented Bro. H. G. Old with the district’s gold medal for the member proposing the greatest number of , candidates for the year. After the , court closed, a social evening was held. The death occurred suddenly at Eltham, on Monday, of Mr. Charles Taplin, who was an early resident of the Patea district. Mr. Taplin, who was a well-known dentist, has been practising in Eltham and Patea for the past 20 years. RAETIHI Advice has been received that Pat and Dick Feltham, sons of Dr. and I Mrs. W. J. Feltham, have been successful in passing their final medical I examination. Nurse D. Wilkie has commenced duty at the Raetihi School Dental Clinic. Mr. D. C. Chalmers, of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, Raetihi, has received notice of his transfer to Masterton. Mr. Chalmers is due to leave Raetihi on December 15, BULLS Messrs. Fred Schwass (Parewanui) and O. Reid (Scott's Ferry) have returned from Wanganui Hospital, and are reported to be progressing favourably. Mrs. W. Kearney, whose health a short time ago occassioned her relatives and friends much anxiety, is now improving steadily.

TAIHAPE. . Mr. James Smart, a former resident of Taihape, was a passenger on the Limited express for Wellington this morning. Mr. M. King, who is a student at the Teachers’ Training College at Christchurch, will arrive home this evening for the summer vacation. At Friday's meeting of the Taihape R.S.A. Mr. C. W. Newport reported that he had called on the general secretary, Mr. J. S. Harrison, recently and Mr. Harrison had sent greetings to the Taihape Association and recalled the occasion when “live poultry” was provided at the annual R.S.A. reunion at Taihape. Mr. D. J. Ward, of the Taihape staff of the Bank of Australasia, is to be transferred to Featherston at an early date. Mr. Ward is at present on holiday in Hamilton. Mr. Jack Clarke, the wrestler who , is to try conclusions with Mr. George , Walker, at Taihape next Saturday, arrived in Taihape by the Limited ex- ( press last night and is staying at the , New Taihape Hotel. MARTON. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Stevens, Wan- 1 ganui Road, have returned from a ' week’s holiday at Wellington. 1 Mr. G. M. Marshall, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Marshall, “Greenbank,” 1 Marton, will enter the ground train- 1 ing school of the Royal New Zealand 1 Air Force at Weraroa on December ’ IS and will be trained as a pilot. Mr. Leslie Russell Humphrey Street. Marton, also leaves for Weraroa on December 18, where he is to be trained as an observer of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Mr. C. N. Slight, Marton, has been posted to Otahuhu as a flight mechanic of the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
