GERMAN WARSHIPS BOMBED
R AF. RAID ON HELIGOLAND
DIRECT HIT REGISTERED ON CRUISER
GERMANS ADMIT LOSS OF ONE SHIP
[ British Official Wireless | Deceived Dee. 4, 9.5 p.m. RUGBY, Dec. 3. The Air Ministry announces that a strong formation of R.A.F. bombers to-day carried out an attack on German warships in the vicinity of Heligoland. Direct hits were obtained with heavy bombs. Considerable anti-aircraft fire was met, and a Mcsscrschmidt fighter—the only enemy fighter encountered—was shot down. One of the direct hits was registered on a cruiser, of which two, besides six or seven destroyers, lay at the naval base. There were no British casualties. Valuable photographs were secured. A Daventry broadcast states that it is believed that the cruiser is not the only ship which was damaged. The German wireless to-night admitted the raid, but said that no serious damage was done. Later it was admitted that a ship had been sunk.
