CALF REARING
(HILDREN’S EVENTS ITENERARY OF JUDGES. Arrangements for the 1939-40 calfrearing competitions were finalised at a meeting of the executive of the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs when it was reported that entries in the calf section numbered 277. In addition there are entries of 70 senior stock and 100 lambs. The itinerary for the judges was approved as follows: — Tuesday November 28 (W. G. Cooper), Kai Iwi, Nukumaru, WavervVednesday, November 29, Whenuakura, Harleyville, Alton. Thursday, November 30, Kakaramea, Manulahi. Friday, December 1 (W. Riddell), Kaitoke, Deniair, Nguturi. Monday, December 4 (A. M. Sims), Parewanui, Porewa, Huntcrville). Tuesday, December 5, Manawatu championship, Feilding. Wednesday, December 6 (Mr. J. J. Robb), Turakina, Wangaehu. Thursday, December 7 (W. E. Broderick), Brunswick, Westmere. Friday. December 8 (C. J. Masters*, Castlecliff. Tuesday, December 12 (C. J. Masters), Umumuri, Rangatau, Ractihi. The Main Trunk from Marton upwards is to be arranged and finalised by the Taihape group. The entries in the agricultural section are 437, in addition to some 30 odd school experimental plots. It entails the isue of 3500 packets of seed (which are all packed in the secretary’s office and approximately two tons of manure, which is also weighed and issued from the same office. The whole of the work is carried out on a grant from the Education Department and donations from various sources. The whole of the entry fees, subsidised very considerably are returned to the various schools in the way of books of educational value.
