GONVILLE SCHOOL

FANCY DRESS GARDEN PARTY. The Gonville School was cn fete on Saturday afternoon when the committee, staff, the parents and pupils and their friends, promoted a fancy dress garden party. The weather was ideal for the occasion and Ihe school funds were considerably augmented by the result. The Mayor (Mr. W. J. Rogers) officially opened proceedings at 2 p.m. following an address by the chairman of the school committe (Mr. J. Batt). The children (in fancy costumes) gave an excellent display of marching, drill, and folk dancing, which was much admired by the parents ant visitors present, reflecting much credit on the teachers’ responsible. The committee’s thanks and appreciation goes to all parents, visitors and others who so generously donated goods for the various stalls. A pleasing feature in this respect was the display of handwork made b> the children of the school. All stalls did excellent business under bands oi willing workers. The following are the results of cooking competition and other prize winners. Ihe judges being Mrs. Capt- | Connor and Mrs. G. Fear: Cooking. (By Pupils of School.) Sponge Cake (with butter), F. Decorated box of flowers, M. James; articles made from sugar bags, Standard HI. B. Forward; over Standard 111. F. Rountree 1, M. James 2: cushion No. 1, Mis. W. Carr, 42 Bignell Street; cushion No. 2, G. Young, 15 Carlton Terrace; cake No. I. Mrs. Rosser, 7 Alma Road: biscuits, T. Gwilliam. 52 Lilliton Street; dressed doll, R. Alabaster, 97 Portal Street; doll's cradle, T. Luff. .36 Bignell Street; baby's knitted outfit, K. Atkinson, Beach Road; pair of “Budgies.” E. McGifford, 15 Gorran Avenue; sack of coal, C. J. Higgins, 115 Gonville Avenue.
