WESTMERE MEETING
The Westmere Institute enjoyed a | members' day last Tuesday, Mrs. ■ Robinson handing the chair over to , Mrs. Preston, the vice-president. : The institute was privileged to lave Mrs. Williams, ot Papua. New Guinea, who gave a delightful detailed description of the life in that, part of the world. This is the second talk Mrs. Williams has given in Westmere. Mrs. Robinson continued the golden thread. "Beauty spots in New' Zealand." taking Gisborne, Captain | Cook's first landing place, as her sub- : - ject. I The competitions were: il) Butter - sponge, judged oy Mrs. Webb Jones, and won by Mrs. Frost, Mrs. Budge second; (2) floral spray, won by Mrs. : Brownlie. I Guests for the afternoon were MesI dames Bellinger and Wills, who ren'dered delightful duets, and each in I turn graciously conceded to the re- ’ quests for solos. I The hostesses for the afternoon ■ were Mesdames Grogan, Littlejohn, Misses T. Taylor, Campbell and Laing. Next meeting members are to have demonstrations for silk mats and smocked aprons. The competitions will be for Christmas present not to f cost more than 2s 6d. and for gingerbread.
