LIVESTOCK MARKETS

l LATE RATES MAINTAINED DAIRY CATTLE POPULAR. A steady influx of business confined mainly to that conducted under the hammer shows the previous weeks good values well maintained, reports 1 )■> r armors’ Co-op. in their v. cekiy view of trie Jive stock market. Large entries of ali classes have been dealt with at the various auctions and ready sales have been the order. Keen interest has been displayed throughout the dairy section, especially tiw.se sales conducted in Centiai ana North Taranaki where buyers have been no doubt encouraged by the good rains experienced earlier in (lie week. Various pe...grce and grade bull fairs continue and the demand tor young sound dany buns has shown some improvement to the earlier fairs. Any bulls that came forward in good condition demanded strong enquiry. Evidence of this was seen at the Opunake bull fair hold on Wednesday last, where pedigree yearling and 3-year-old bulls sold at 31 and 33 guineas respectively, and the prices realised £-,r sound grade bulls have been well above the average. 2-year-olds have sold to £l6 16s, and yearlings to £l5 15s. A lull report of our OpunaAe bull fair has appeared in an earlier issue. Values in the fat stock section can be reported as follows: That of fat cattle to be equal to last weeks parity, whereas tnat of fat sheep shows a slight casing tendency. There appears to be a more plentiful supply of fat hoggets offering than was the case a fortnight to three weeks ago and it is cii. cipated with the funner advance ol spring that heavier supplies will come to hand and thus an ailround easing in values will be discernible. All classes in the store sheep section are showing enquiry, but supplies are by no means sufficient to meet the demand. With shearing of dry sheep general it would appear that ere long as far as local quotations are concerned these will be more num ?rous “off shears.’’ There is still strong support lor all graziers’ classes and both run cattle and young padlock cows have been keenly competed for. Prices generally may be said equal Io those of our previous week’s report. Hl XTEKVILLE SALE Tne N.Z. Farmers’ Co-op.
