OBITUARY
MR. THOMAS ( AMPBELL Mr. Thomas Campbell, wl(i was i born in Karori 85 years ago and lived I in that district all his life, died at. his | home, Eden vale, Campbell Street, on! Sunday, after a brief illness. Mi. I Campbell could remember Karori | when it was clothed in luxuriant bush. 1 His father, the late Mr. John Campbell, who arrived at Wellington in 1841, had taken up one of the bush sections before there was any road leading over the hills, and it was this old pioneer and his sons who broke the land in, and turned it into a fin» dairy farm, the sons living to see tivfarm cut up into building allotments, the area through which Campbell and Cargill Streets run to-day. Mr. Thomas Campbell continued to farm these lands till ho retired some 30 years ago, since when Karori has beer transformed from a farming district into one of Wellington's most pleasant suburbs. Mr. Campbell is survived by four 1 sons and one daughter. The sons are] Messrs. John Campbell, engineer, i Karori; Thomas Campbell, Auckland, Clalidc Campbell, of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand; and RevFather Dalton H. Campbell, BlenheimThe daughter is Miss Kathleen Campbell, Karori. MR. R. K. ELLINGHAM j The death ha.s occurred following a j shooting accident of Mr. Richard K. Ellingham, youngest son of Mr. and j Mrs. H. E. Ellingham, Allen Street, Dannevirke. He was 33 years of age. Formerly he was a well-known Southern Hawke’s Bay resident, engaging in farming pursuits. He was a Dannevirke representative Rugby player. His widow survives him.
