WAVERLEY W.D.F.U.

At the monthly meeting of the Waverley branch of the W.D.F.U Mrs. Newland presided. Others present were Mesdames MacFarlane, Strauchon (hon. sec.), Belton. O’Reilly. J P. Stewart, C. J. Dickie, H. Boyer, iG. H. Alexander, and Misses Elmslie and Cheyne. Apologies were received from Mesdames W. Robertson, P. V. Graves, R. Hunt, J. Brown, A. L Elmslie and J. J. Johnston. The Red Cross headquarters suggesting the formation of a local branch and asking members of the W. to interest friends in the movement. It was stated that the chairman of the Town Board would later call a meeting of those interested. Letters were also received from Miss Stanford, convener of the Book Club for children’s health camp, and from Mrs. White, of the Victoria League, and Mrs. McPhail, of the Ladies’ Health Committee, expressing gratitude for two parcels of children’s books, which will form the nucleus of a library. The president reported that in connection with commemorative trec--1 planting. Mr. Dickie and Miss Lupton had agreed to the planting of a tree supplied by the division in the croquet' and tennis grounds. It was also proposed that the secretary of the Racing Club be asked for permission to plant two Norfolk Island pines at the entrance to the racecourse. The secretary reported progress in the arrangements for (he visit of a concert party from the Blind Institute under the auspices of the R.S.A. in conjunction with the W.D.F.U. Four lecturers of the party will give talks to the pupils of the local school. The two delegates who attended the conference held in Wellington in Julyread a most interesting report of the general business transacted and on the work of the housekeeper. The meeting then closed.
