CHARADE'S JUMPERS’ ELAT A splendid trial for the Grand National Hurdles was registered by Charade in winning the Jumpers’ Flat Race at Riccarton on Tuesday. Success in this race has not usually been a good augury for the Grand National, i but it was impossible not to be greatly impressed by Charade’s effort and the mare gained many further friends for her more important engagement. Charade was handled to the greatest advantage by A. Jenkins, who ha* I been associated with hep in her four i victories this winter. Jenkins was I satisfied to let her remain well back ! for the first mile, where he still had • ten horses in front of him. but on the turn he began to move forward. Thi ‘ mare was still only eighth entering the straight, but the majority of the leaders were then tiring, and she finished through them as true as a die to wear down King Rey for a length victory. This was Charade’s fourth win in succession, the previous three having been over hurdles. However, she , proved herself to be a good highweight I performer earlier in nor career, one | of her wins in this department having ; been at Trentham. She stripped a i picture of fitness. The last horse to ■ follow up a Jumpers’ Flat win with * success in the Grand National was ! Nukumai in 1928.
