Manawatu had the better of the game in the first spell and only solid 1 tackling prevented the score from 1 mounting. The half-time score was: ’ Manawatu 5; North Otago 3. The North Otago forwards played a fine game in the second spell, dominating play and bustling opponents into mistakes, to secure victory. For the winners, Hedley, Gillies, Depree and Low scored tries, Easton converting one. For Manawatu, Findlay and McKenzie scored tries, Findlay converting both.
