SOCIAL EVENING
FAREWELL TO MR. AND MRS. J EMMETT. HELD AT MARGARET WATT HOME. On Saturday evening, members of St. Paul's Presbyterian choir mot at the Margaret Wall Home to join with the children there in a farewell social to Mr. and Mrs. John Emmett, who leave shortly to take the position of organist and choirmaster at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Palmerston North. Mr. and Mrs. Emmett, have, with the choir, encouraged the children in their music and singing and as a result several of the older arc choir members. As a complimentary gesture to Mr. and Mrs. Emmett, the children, assisted by their staff, sang as a surprise item one of the choir’s favourite anthems. This effort was greeted with great applause. Items were given by Mr. and Mrs. Emmett, Messrs. Warnock, Dustin Chelley, J. and M. Lyne. Miss Joyce Patterson was accompaniste. All the games and competitors were entered into heartily, thus creating a particularly genial atmosphere. After supper, Mr. Mara, chairmar of the choir committee, in a most fitting speech stressed Mrs. Emmett’s great ability in her rendering ol church music and Mr. Emmett’s inspirational conductorship. He then presented to them on behalf of the choir a fireside stool anc companion set and a book for theii small daughter Joan. June Chcllej gtvo a souvenir spoon from the children. Mr. Emmett, in thanking the choii for their gifts expressed his and Mrs Emmett's appreciation of the choii members’ loyal support ami pleasurf at the friendly relations which hat always existed between them, anc I asked for a continuance of that loy laity and support to their successors. | Mr. Mara also expressed the choir’, pleasure at. the presence of Mrs Emmett’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tur ; vey. Mr. Turvey being a former con ductor and Mrs. Emmett senior am Mr. Fred Emmet, also thanked Mr and Mrs. Rule for their hospitality. In the unavoidable absence of th< [ Rev. McLean, Mr. Rule brought thi evening to a close by conducting fam ' ily worship, all joining in the hymn “6 God of Bethel.”
