CANINE TRAVELLER
"PADDY THE WANDERER" I -WELL-KXOWX AIREDALE DIES AT WELLINGTON. LOVER OF SEA TRAVEL. ! "Paddy the Wanderer," an Airedale dog who made his home on (lie Wellington waterfront, died yesterday morning. Paddy was a great friend of mariners and made many trips in vessels trading around lhe New Zealand coast. On one occasion Paddy was a passenger in the Holmdale from Wellington to Picton and Wanganui, travelling in the engine room where lhe warmth was more to his liking than the cold decks. Paddy left the Holmdale at Picton and spent part of the day on the Holmglen but rejoined the Holmdale before it left for Wanganui. After spending the day on the Town Wharf, Paddy returned to Wellington on the Holmdale. He was at home in any part of the ship and found no difficulty in negotiating the steep steys leading down to the engine room. Belonging to no one, Paddy was a friend of every mariner and taxi driver in Wellington, his annual registration being paid by the Wellington taxi men.
