Rogers. J. Siddells, D. Ross, T. Mitchell, K. £ alley and W. Morrison. A request was received for photographs lor use in the Wellington provincial court at the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition, the board agreeing to accede to the request. The chairman of the Works Committee. Mr. J. F Millward, reported as follows on a conference with Messrs. Singleton, Melton, and Fulton of the N.Z. Dairy Division:— "Mr. Singleton said he was sorry the board had not agreed to the department’s suggestions for the provision of some protection against weather when dairy produce is bein 6 loaded into store and also the office accommodation for the resident grader. He stated that it was necessary for the protection of butter and cheese that it should be unloaded from railway wagon or motor lorry undercover, and th? Wanganui stores were the only stores where such provision was not made and it was the desire of the department th:* Wanganui should c m • into line with the othci stores in this respect. With regard to th? grader's office accommodation, in.- department considered that the cilice was too far distant from iht grading room and necessitated a fairly long walk for the grader to and from the office to the grading room and exposed him too much to the elements in bad weather. An inspection was then made and it was considered that alterations could be made to the lean-to in front of the stores on to the wharf whereby' lorries would then he able to discharge direct into the receiving doors, and in so far as office acc -mmudation is concerned, a portion of the grading room could be partiti n d oft and lined, for an office for the giader." Drrdgp Kaione Mr. T I. Atchison, engineer in charge of the steam dredge Kaione. at Nelson, reported as follows loi June: 'The dredge and dredging has been going along satisfactorily. As regards the spoil pumped ashore, we have managed to keep up our average aith ugh the going is getting harder. At the present time we are shifting line sand. We had orders to dredge ort a place for the new' wharf so ii was a case of going back to the days when we had to pump the heavy sand and shells ashore. Captain R. D. Stewart and crew are keeping the dredge in top-hole condition and it io a credit to them. We are receiving eveiy assistance from the officials oi the Harbour Board—nothing is a trouble to them." Engineer's R port The engineer, Mr. R. R. Dawson, repoled as follows on the work carried month: “Approximately 78u tons of shell rock haw be- n supplied from the quarries for the montn. The greater part of this rock has been placed on the river training wall and sufficient at the bc.se of the south mole to protect the rail track from erosion. Minor repairs will be made immediately to the basin wall and the construction of a new internal basin wall will be commenced next month. "Fair progress is being made wita • ’n? dismantling of the oil wharf and the timber is being transported to C—Bleclili. This timoer will be used for maintenance and further developmental work at Castlecliff; also at a later date it is proposed to salvage the piles which can be made useful lox constructing mooring wharves within th? basin for floating plant.
