MATCH DRAWN

TECHNICAL OLD BOYS AND TAIHAPE COUNTRY (Own Correspondent.> TAIHAPE. JuK 15. ' Wanganui Technical Old Boys and | Taihape Country played a drawn; jame on the Recreation Ground al ! Faihape this afternoon, each side registering three points. The game lacked the thrills and exilement of the clash between Taih.rie Old Boys and Wanganui Old Boys and was “tame" compared with that memorable encounter. McCormick goaled for the visitors in the first spell, while Payne equalised in the second half by scoring in the corner for Taihape Country. Payne put in some good work in the dying stages and displayed marked ability on attack. He and Hekenui were the pick of the home team's backs. Hekenui putting in some of his characteristic runs, but he was well marked by McCormick in the last 15 minutes or so of the match, visiting centre moving in to second five-eighth so that he could pay special attention to Kekenui. McCormick was easily the best of the visiting backs, being very sound on defence and elusive on attack. On one occasion he nearly scored, being brought down on the line by Hekenui. F. Bailey was injured a few minutes before half time, being replaced by P. Chase. Berryman played half-back for Taihape Country in the second spell in place of Raukawa.. w ho moved out to first five-eighth. Payne’s try came from a back movement, initiated by Berryman and carried on by Raukawa. who passed to Hekenui, to Payne, who raced over near the corner. Taihape Country attacked strongly in the last 10 minutes and narrowly missed scoring again but the defence was good, the tackling of the Technical Old Boys backs being worthy of special mention. Crowther, Leary and Wereta played well in the Country pack, the first named being on the ball all day. Goldsbury and Taylor caught the eye of the writer in the visitors’ pack. Play was colourless in. the first half. ! but improved considerably in the | dying stages of the match, though I there was nothing to arouse the I spectators to a pitch of high excite--1 ment. The teams were as follows: | Taihape Country (green).—Stuckey, Berryman, Raukawa, Payne, F. Bai- • ley. Hekenui, McMahon, McGlashin, I Toomey, Leary, Crowther, D. Bailey, Dickson, Wereta. Tech Old Boys (blue and black).— Guy, Kjoss, McCormick, W. Cairncross. Briscoe, Valentine, Cairncross, Hansen. Breed. Waters, Takarangi, I Ford, Goldsbury, Taylor
