WAIMARINO COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING (Own Correspon ci e n t.) Cr. D. J. Berry presided’ over Ihe usual monthly meeting of the Waimarino County Council. Also present were Crs. I. Carter, R. Lilburn. A. IL Read, D. Scarrow. P. H. Wise, C. B. Solly, the county clerk (Mr. A. Mabbot). and the county engineer (.Mr. L. 11. Hogg). The following business was transacted: - After considering an application from Messrs. Conrad and Eichler (Raetihi) re compensation for damage done by carting firewood on the Mangaeturoa Road, the council agreed to accept one load of metal to live or six of firewood in the winter months and 1 in 15 during the summer months for maintenance. The application of Mr. L. Holtham. of Horopito, to erect an advertising sign at the junction of the main highway and Horopito township was not granted by the council. Mr. L. E. Pope (Ohakune - ) asked for permission to erect an advertising sign al the same site as that sought by the previous applicant. The application was declined. Mr. F. 11. Allen, of Pipiriki. submitted that the work of metalling Akapuka Road. Pipiriki. should be included in this year’s Public Works estimates. His submission was forwarded to the Minister concerned for favourable co ns id eration. The Wellington Provincial Court committee enquired of the Rangataua Town Board (now absorbed by the county) if it could consider the contribution of £lO as in order. -The matter was left to the chairman and county clerk to deal with and they were given power to act if a promise had been made by the late Town Board. The Wanganui City Council forwarded an objection by the Marton Borough Council to a recent decision of (he conference on the heavy traffic pool. It advocated that some concession amounting from 25 to 33 per cent, should bo granted to farmers using their own lorries. The council decided to approve of the suggestion provided it received the of the majority of the local bodies. The Minister of Internal Affairs intimated that Arbor Day was officially fixed for August 2. -Received. The Department of Labour notified the council that all single men were to be withdrawn from work under the No. 13 scheme and their places taken by married men. Single men on distant work and men in key positions were not to be withdrawn if their places could not be filled by married men. The clerk stated thar. he had written asking that the men employed by the council on this scheme should be allowed to remain on the grounds that no accommodation was available for married men and owing to the distance the men wer working from the centre.—The council approved of the clerk's action. The chairman, reporting for the committee appointed to deal with the tender for repair work to the streets of Rangataua, intimated that the tender of Mr. C. W. Moore had been accented. The engineer's report and the ranger’s report as submitted were adopted and the pay sheet amounting to £lOB6 17s 8d was pased for payment.
