RIVAL NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATIONS
DISCONTENT AT SYDNEY SINGLE BODY MAY BE FORMED SYDNEY. July 13. Sharp differences of opinion among New Zealanders residing in Sydney in regard to social gatherings were revealed last night at a large meeting convened by the New Zealand women’s associations to form a new organisation of men and women. Several speakers said it was ridiculous that four New Zealand clubs should already attempt to function in Sydney. Strife and discontent socially had existed for years. Mrs. E. Hempton. organising secretary of the New Zealand Club, which is a rival body said she was insulted at the door when trying to enter the meeting. She was told she was not i allowed to attend. Finally she was permitted to do so. Sir Benjamin Fuller said the 34,000 New Zealanders in Sydney should try to live in peace. The meeting decided to form a new organisation. Mr. J. Taylor, New Zealand Trade Commissioner, was confined to his home with an indisposition, but telephonically stated that he wanted to see one body in Sydney the same as in Melbourne.
