HAMILTON PROPOSAL BORDI GH <X)I XCIL’S APPEAL HAMILTON. July 12. Proposals for Lhe improvement of the Waikato Airport at, Rukuhia ar** contained in a circular submitted by the Hamilton Borough Council to the local bodies concerned. The council, states the circular, does not suggest that, other local bodies should pledge their properties as security for the proposed loan of £12,500. It is prepared to ask its ratepayers to bear the tesponsibility for the loan and will he prepared to advance from lime to time up to about £5OO to meet expenses. This will be done if thc local bodies agree to contrlnute to any annual delicit and agree to lhe constitution of an airport board, representative of the contributing authorities. The council will undertake to promote a local bill in Parliament, on lines similar to that of the Whangarei Airport Act (1937), if agreement can be reached among the local bodies. It will also make itself responsible for the purchase of the land and will pay all costs involved in securing thc passing of the bill. The capital expenditure over the next three years would be about £12.500. and a 30-year loan on the instalment principle would make an annual charge of about £750. The council anticipates that the average expenditure oxer a period of years would be £904, and the annual receipts about £775 The local bodies between them, therefore, would have to share an average annual loss of 1129. It is emphasised that Lhe policy of the Government has been clearly stated, and no Government money will be available to improve the present ground while it remains private property. Unless it is improved no regular air services can be expected. grading and raising the filling at the Putiki stream. Kaitoke Roads. The Paure Road extension has received metal repairs and has also been reshaped by the grader. All roads arc in a fair state of repair.
