BOXING ASSOCIATION. (Own Correspondent.) PATEA, July 14. The associations hearty thanks were tendered Mrs. and Miss McCarty at a meeting of the Patea Boxing As•sociation this week, for the donation of a handsome solid silver cup to be called the John McCarty Memorial Cup. The cup will always remain the property of the association, the holder holding for such time as the association decides. It was decided to approach the member for the district, Mr. H. G. Dickie, M.P., with a view to assistance ; being obtained from the Government : to enable the guides to attend the ' camp. Norma Ashby and Dulcie Meuli ; were appointed as representatives oil the Patea Troop, nomination having been sent for approval. It was decided to hold the annua! | meeting on Monday. July 17, at 7.' p.m. Mrs. F. Ramsbcttom presided. METHODIST CHURCH. Rev. W. J. Cunnison read apologies from members of the Beach Improvement Society, Alton Young Farmer J Club, Amateur Athletic Association and Capt. R. W. Haddon, and said how sorry the townspeople were that Mr. Sampson was going away. He had done a lot of good work for most of the iocal clubs. Mrs. Cunnison then presented the guest of honour with a handsome brown leather suitcase with nest wishes from all present. Mr. J. F. Pcacocke. sergeant-major of the local territorials paid tribute to Mr. Sampson as a member of the platoon, and presented him with a travelling rug irom the territorials. After musical honours, Mr. Sampson thanked the speakers and his friends foi their gifts. Among those present were M:<ses J. Fairweather, F. Bromiley, N. Carey. N. Fowler. A. Lord, A. Amon, D.
