REASON FOR PUBLIC APPEAL MR. r. S. RI SSELI. INTERVIEWED. “The whole of the Y.M.C.A \ property in Victoria Avenue is free of debt, also that all claims for debts incurred during the depression \ears have heen fully paid up, so that public are not asked to subscribe to the payment of any outstanding liabilities, but simply to enable the long standing activities of the Young Men’b Branch of the work to be carried on and extended to meet the greatei demands of to-day, and also to permit the organisation and development of the newly formed Young Womens Association the need of which has long been strongly felt in Wanganui,' said Mr. T. S. Russell when interviewed h\ the “Chronicle” yesterday. “The membership fees only mec; about half of the expenses of the association, because the fees have to be kept low, and no boy or girl is refused the use of the facilities of the organisation because he or she is unable m pay the full fees. It has also been the practice for many years to take into the annual boys’ camp inmates from the local orphanages whose whole expenses are met. by the board of management. j “It is proposed to provide facili’iex I whereby girls from the country districts when in town and girls from ou: various business houses may go ann make and enjoy a cup of tea vith their lunch. Many girls and young women in our shops will appreciate this. . "“The public of Christchurch is, 1 understand, contributing the sum ol £3OOO lor boys' work only and 1 have every confidence that, the public of Wanganui generally, also many firms and their staffs and local organisations will readily subscribe to this appeal and see that the necessary £5OO is forthcoming.”
