The Rev. G. Jackson, of the Green Lane Congregational Church, Auckland, will be offered a call to Emmanuel Congregational Church, Palmerston North.

Dr. T. Hardie Neil, son of Dr. J. Hardie Neil, Auckland, has passed in an examination for a diploma in laryngology conducted in London by the Royal College of Surgeons.

Dr. J. D. Thomson, until recently a house surgeon at the Southland Hospital, has left Wellington with Mrs. Thomson, who is a qualified nurse, to take charge of the Melanesian Mission hospital at- Fauabu, Solomon Islands.

Colonel E. Puttick, D. 5.0., officer commanding the Central Military District, inspected the Collegiate School cadets yesterday and addressed members of the Wanganui Garrison Officers’ Club last night. He is to visit New Plymouth to-day. Mr. H. B. Hawthorn, formerly of Wellington and subsequently in the native school service in North Auck-

land, who is at present studying at lhe University of Hawaii in terms of a fellowship, has been awarded a Carnegie grant which will enable him to go to Yale University to pursue his studies. *

Mr. Frank Hall, the much-esteemed caretaker of the Cambridge Bowling Club, celebrated his 75th birthday a few days ago. On Saturday afternoon at the green the members assembled, and on their behalf, Lhe president, Mr. Wesley Hooker, presented Mr. Hall with a pipe and a pair of fireside slippers. Hearty congratulations were extended to Mr. Hall.

The appointment of Mr. W. R. Beattie, branch manager of the State Advances Corporation at Hamilton as district intermediate credit supervisor for the Waikato Rural Intermediate Credit District and chairman of Lhe Waikato District Rural Intermediate Credit Board, is gazetted. Mr. D. Grant is gazetted as deputy district intermediate credit supervisor for the Waikato district.
