Meteorological Office, Wellington, Tuesday, June 20, 3 p.m. General Situation. —The depression is now centred not far from Hokitika and appears to be moving southwards. Barometers are still low west of the North Island and across the South Sea. Forecast.—Winds: A temporary southerly change to-night in the southern portion of the South Island, otherwise south-westerly predominating in western districts and north-westerly in eastern districts. Force, strong at times south of Taranaki and Hawke's Bay; otherwise moderate. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough south of Farewell Spit and Akaroa, but decreasing later on the east coast, elsewhere moderate but rising somewhat about Cook Strait and in the South Taranaki Bight. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong west to south winds. Seas moderate in the north and rather rough in the south. Weather: Further rain probable in the southern half of the South Island, with some heavy falls. Scattered rain elsewhere, but conditions improving in eastern districts north of Otago. Temperatures mild, but becoming cooler. The New. Zealand Friends School, St. John's Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 2 hours 50 minutes. Rainfall, .05. Temperature: Maximum, 67deg. Fahr.; minimum, 45deg. Fahr.
