ON WANGANUI TRACKS

TRAINING OPERATIONS i HORSES FOR OTA KI AND TRENTHAM I Few Otaki engagements are claimed by Wanganui-trained horses, and it. is likely that the contingent for Trentham will be larger than that to be seen out next Saturday at Otaki. Yesterday morning’s training operations suggested -that Eurotas, Artful Dodger, and Lowenberg may be the only representatives from Wanganui to compete at the fixture on Saturday. The weather was tine and mild for track work yesterday morning, and the course proper, on which the fast work was done, was in great order, though a trifle soft after the heavy rain earlier in the week.

’ Eurotas, with J. Head in the saddle, | slipped over four furlongs in 52sec., I doing it nicely. The Pantheon geld- ' ing is down to contest the Tainui I Hack Handicap on Saturday and L. G. ! Butler intends to take him through ; for the fixture. I Lowenberg.(F. Bentley) and Middle i (K. Chote) were given a couple of [circuits, sprinting home over the last i three furlongs in 40sec. and doing a little better the second time. LowenI berg is engaged at Otaki on Saturday ■ in the open seven furlongs, the Taipua ! Handicap, and he is likely to fulfil the engagement, as he is to race at Trentham next month. »■ Though Artful Dodger is required to concede Lady Callaghan 'weight in the Rangiuru Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase on Saturday, he will probably be on hand. Yesterday the Danilof gelding did useful paceworx. After two rounds of pacework War Lap (S. T. Edwards) was given a run over six furlongs, taking imin. 18scc. for the distance, after cutting out the half-mile in a shade over 51sec. It is not likely that he will rac* at Otaki, the Lapidary gelding being reserved for the Trentham meeting. Amigo, who is well engaged at

Trentham, has not. been required io make time in his track work but he has gone on lhe right way since running at Wanganui. The Beau Pere gelding generally runs good races when iresn. Sam’s Choice, back on lhe tracks after a lengthy spell, appears to have been benefited thereby. Entail and Hornily are spelling at Koatanui and will not be brought in ’ till next month. Rehearsal is also enjoying a let up but he has not been turned out. Rayner’s rising threeyc<y>olds, Submission, Portal and Dynasty, are having an easy time but their serious work will start soon.
