MUTTON BIRD CATCH

DECREASE THIS SEASON ( Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, June 15. The total catch of mutton birds this j season shows a big decrease com-! pared with former years. The catch in a normal season is about 300,000 but this season there is a decrease of about 30 or 40 per cent. This is attributed by a leading merchant to the stormy weather and the better economic conditions, resulting in fewer Maoris going to the islands. However, the birds that have been sent to the mainland are generally in excellent condition.
