COMPLETE AGREEMENT
TANNERY WORKERS’ AWARD. RATES OF PAY FIXED’ [ Pff Press Association J WELLINGTON, June 16. After a sitting exertding over three days, complete agreement was come to in conciliation Council in Wellington to-day in the dispute between the New Zealand Freezing Works and Related Trades Industrial Association of Workers and the New Zealand Tanners Industrial Association of Employers. This was an application byworkers for a Dominion award. Employers agreed to give a penny per hour increase all round in wages on the condition that workers ac-, cepted the clauses relating to hours and classification existing in the present award. This was agreed to. The following hourly rates of wages were agreed to: Carriers, handfleshers and machine-splitters, 2s Sid; shaving machine hands, 2s 6id; machine-fleshers, hand-fleshers, after machine hand-scudders, machine or hand unhairers, 2s 6d; staking machinists, felt-makers, pelt-reflesh-ers, lacquer-mixers, tanyard and limepit hands, drum hands, roller men and lacquer sprayers, 2s sd; machine splitters assistants and all others, 2s 4d. —With regard to the employment of youths, the emloyers agreed that the minimum rates of pay between the ages of 19 and 20 should be increased from £3 a week to £3 5s and from 20 to 21 from £3 10s to £3 15s. It was agreed that the wages of specialists, which varied in different tanneries, should be arranged between the secretary of the local union and employer, the matter to be referred to the disputes committee if agreementcould not be made. The only matter referred to the Court of Arbitration was that concerning underrate workers. The award will come into force on June 22 expire on December 31. 1940.
