LIVELY CONTROVERSY

AUSTRALIAN RADIO JOURNAL ADDITION OF OVERSEAS NEWS SYDNEY, May 19. An announcement by the Post-master-General in the House of key resentatives that the Australian Broadcasting Commission, which is controlled by the Government, contemplates the publication of a weekly journal containing, in addition to radio features, talks and programmes, overseas news, has caused a lively controversy. The daily newspapers are particularly hostile and take the view that the Broadcasting Commission, which is financed by listeners' fees, has no right to enter the field of private competition and should concentrate on giving better radio programmes-and a better service to the public.
