STATEMENT BY FRANCO WARNING TO CERTAIN NATIONS NO ATTEMPT AT ECONOMIC ENCIRCLEMENT (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received May 21, 8.40 p.m. MADRID, May 20. In the course of a broadcast General Franco stated that he intended to collaborate in the pacification of Europe, but issued a warning to “certain nations” against the adoption of economic encirclement. “There must be no attempt to lessen Spain’s sovereignty, or economic or political liberties, for which she went to war,” he said. . A message from Lisbon says General Antonio Carmona, Dictator of Portugal, conferred on General Franco a cordon of the Grand Cross of the Tower and the Spade, the highest Portuguese military honour.
