DEATH OF ANOTHER OLD FOOTBALLER
i —*• MR. T. W. THOMPSON j FOUNDATION MEMBER OF PIRATES TEAM i ! Wanganui has lost yet another of its well-known citizens with the death on Saturday morning last, of Mr. Thomas William Thompson after a very short illness. Born in Lyttelton in 1879. Mr. Thompson came to Wanganui 10 years later. He was the eldest of a family of 11 children —seven sons and four daughters. For some 30 years, and up to the time of his death, he was employed by Messrs. J. H. Cock and Co.. Merchants, of Wanganui. He always took a very keen interest in the sporting life of this city, being a member of the Union Boat Club, the Wanganui Highland Rifles and particularly of the Priates’ Football Club, of which, he was a foundation and a life member. For many years both he and his brother Gordon, who died only two months ago, earned a very high reputation as hookers in the Pirate senior and the Wanganui representative Rugby teams. When his playing days were over, for many years he took a very keen and active part as a member of the Wanganui Referees’ As-j sociation. Flags flew at half-mast at S iriggens Park on Saturday. His very jovial and cheery personality will be greatly missed among his wide circle of friends. He leaves a widow, and three sons —Mr. Gordon A. Thompson, o' )he Technical College, Mr. Walter R. Thompson of the Wanganui-Rangi-tikei Electric Power Board and Master Keith Thompson.
