ESCAPED PRISONER
THEFT AND CONVERSION MAGISTRATE DOES NOT ADD TO SENTENCE [ Per Press WELLINGTON, May 17, I In what the police described as just , a cleaning up process five charges ol unlawful conversion ol cars, and three ot theft, were brought against Robert i Clarence Clarke, aged 21, who escaped from prison at the beginning ol the year and traversed most of the North Island with a young man from the Waikato, committing offences of the nature charged. Clarke was recently dealt with by Mr. Justice Smith in the Supreme Court leniently, as he was already serving six years, the greater portion for escaping prison. The magistrate, Mr. J. L. Stout, said he would take the same view as the Supreme Court. He would not add to Clarke's sentence. "1 will convict and discharge you on these charges and I hope you will carry out your present intention and serve your sentence and make good."
