ORIENTAL MAGICIAN
CHANG COMPANY ARRIVING BRIDGES TRIO INCLUDED The famous Oriental magician Chang will arrive in Wanganui on Saturday with hit, company of American and Chinese artists, to appear at the Opera House in the afternoon and evening, when the production will be “A Trip to Hades,” a revue which forms a background for his magic. Included on the programme will be the beautiful Chinese fantasy, ‘‘The Legend of the Enchanted Princess.” Although this is the first visit of Chang to New Zealand, he is already known here, as he is a leader in the world of magic. In the company are a leading Broadway dancer, Miss Joanna Claire, who appears with a ballet, and a young English baritone. A Cuban marimba orchestra and a score of Chinese workers in magic will add to the attractiveness of the production, which requires more than 50 tons of baggage to provide it with the lavish costuming and brilliant scenes for which it is noted. It is many years since Wanganui had the chance to enjoy a production with an Eastern flavour and the Chang company should prove very popular. The Bridges Trio, formerly of Wanganui, play a prominent part in the programme.
