HITLER'S INSPECTION OF FORTIFICATIONS Received May 17, 6.30 p.m. SAARBRUCKEN, May 16. Herr Hitler visited the Saar district and inspected the now fortifications on the Lorraine frontier. NATURE OF FORTIFICATIONS. Received May 17. 5.5 p.m. BERLIN. May 16. Commenting on Herr Hitler’s tour, the Lokal-Anzeigcr discloses that there are 1200 fortified positions ranging from machine-gun nests to vast underground fortresses in Ihe zone ; from Wesel to the Black Forest, and I that 435,000 men. including 85,000 troops, have been engaged in the zone, which has an average depth of 30 miles.
