SUGAR QUOTAS
RELEASE OF SUPPLIES REPORTED RECOMMENDA TION LONDON, May 16. It is understood tnat the Inter--1 national Sugar Committee has recomj mended a return to the voluntary i quota and surrender of quantities [ amounting to 248,375 tons, plus the 5 i per cent, quota cuts totalling 184,125 I tons, as some countries are unable to , fill even the reduced quotas. The total amount of additional sugar likely to be available is estimated at 236,000 tons, plus 85,000 tons from the British colonics and Dominions. In connection with the Government’s emergency purchases the Financial News draws attention to the dangers to the price structure that the releases will involve, and contends that the Government has insufficiently studied the interests of the producers.
