40 PER CENT. INCREASE

WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD LEVIES CONFERENCE ASKS FOR INCREASED SUBSIDY [ Per Press Association. I HAMILTON, May 16. Protesting against the large increase of approximately 40 per cent, in the proposed levies of the Waikato Hospital Board this year, a representative conference of contributing local authorities in the Waikato, which met in Hamilton to-day decided to ask the Government to grant an increased subsidy for the administration of the hospital. This decision was reached on the resolution of Mr. W. C. Kennedy, chairman of the Piako County Council. The decision also embraced the support of the Counties’ Association and Municipal Authorities’ Association in their efforts to secure a reform of the incidence of hospital taxation, which is borne only by ratepayers at present. A deputation will meet the Minister of Health, Hon. P. Fraser, in Hamilton this month to seek an increase in the subsidy.
