Mrs. Ince presided over a very satis- i factory attendance of members at the j May meeting of the Mangaweka Women’s Institute. The minutes of the last meeting | were read and confirmed and apolo-| gies for absence were received from | Mrs. Brewer and Miss Oulsnam. Mrs. Mahoney continued the golden thread talks with an article on the life of Rosa Bonheur, which proved very interesting. During the afternoon, Mrs. Smith, one of the delegates to the half-yearly council meeting in Taihape, gave a. very comprehensive report on the meeting and also read the six months’ , report of this institute, which gained second place. It was decided to hold a street stall I on May 18 to aid the library funds. A very pleasant interlude was a song given by Mrs. F. Billinghurst, which was much appreciated. A very amusing play, entitled “A Tea Tangle,” was given by two mem- < bers of the drama circle, and Mrs. < Pairman proved the winner of an in- ; teresting competition. Competitions resulted: Premier < flower, Mrs. Pairman; chrysanthe-1 < mums, Mrs. Pederson 1, Mrs. Dickson i 2, Mrs. Reilly 3; collection small cakes, | < Mrs. Pederson 1, Mrs. Smith 2, Mrs. I Dickson 3; man’s knitted sox, Mrs.' ; Reilly 1, Miss Zohs 2. | The hostesses for the meeting were 1 Mesdames Mcßae, McDonald, Noble,' ( and Nickleson. <
