.JUBILEE SPORTS (Own Correspondent) RANGIWAHIA, May 16. A bright and varied programme of events was held on Saturday in connection with the school jubilee. The day was not all it might have been but every one entered into the spirit of festivities and made the most of it. The events were run off in record time by a very energetic committee. A willing band of ladies was in charge of the luncheon and much credit is due them for the time and work they put in. The children's events were held firsl and the winners of the various events were:— Boys (11 years and over): V. Thompson 1, C. Jones 2, N. Thompson 3. Girls (11 years and over): Shiela Rose 1. J. Arnett 2. Boys (9 to 10): Reese James 1, D. Monk 2. Girls (9 to 10): Valerie Lawrence 1, Alma Thompson 2. Boys (7 to 8): C. Mills 1, Owen Rose Girls (7 to S): Madge Moess 1. Betty (Thomas 2. I Boys (5 to 61: Lloyd Billingliurst 1, I Alister Tompkins 2. Girls (5 to 6): Carol Rose 1, Rath Nicholls 2. High School Boys: Ivan James 1, Hillery Thompson 2. High School Girls: Heather Fankhauser 1, Sylvia Blackler 2. Girls' Three-legged: Alma Thompson and V. Lawrence 1, Shiela Rose and Violet Bowness 2. Children’s Consolation Races High School Boys: D. Boshier 1, G. Fankhauser 2. High School Girls: B. McNiely 1, E. Blackler 2. Boys (9 years): Don Monk 1, K. Thompson 2, S. Gillard 3. Girls (5 to 7): Ruth Nicholls 1, Margaret Pearson 2. I Junior Ex-pupils (ladies): W. Rose 1, J. Rose 2, M. Thompson 3. Ladies Senior Ex-pupils: Mrs. G. Freman 1, Mrs. A. Price 2. After these events the maypole dance was presented by girls of the local school and the Lambeth Walk by the secondary school pupils. There were seven teams in for the tug-o’-war, Mangarimu, Karewarewa. Main South. Hinau, Pipe Band. Rangiwahia, and Ruahine. In the first round Mangarimu beat Karewarewa. Hinau beat Main South, Pipe Band beat Rangiwahia. and Ruahine had a bye. In the semi-finals Mangarimu beat Pipe Band and Hinau beat Ruahine. The final resulted in Hinau winning from Mangarimu.
The catching of the greasy pig was won by Keith Thompson, the prize being the pig Football Match The feature of the day was lhe football match between Apiti and the local team, it being a competition match and considered to be a fitting finish to the day's sports. Although the Rangiwahia team was victorious by 16 points to nil, lhe teams were more evenly matched than the scores indicate. The first score was registered just before the whistle went for half-time. Rangiwahia broke away from a loose scrum for L. Thompson to score at the corner flag. N. Amadio converted, making the score 5 to nil at the interval. In the second half, play opened up briskly, the spectators enjoying some bright football. After a series of scrums and line-outs, L. Thompson scored from an opening made by Kronast. N. Amadio again converted, making the score 10—0. N. Amadio and L. Thompson registered two further scores but these were not converted. During the match several attempts were made at field goals but were unsuccessful. The game was ably controlled by Mr. Smith.
