INTER-CLUB GOLF MATCH

TAIHAPE DEFEATS TAVMAKINU (Own Correspondent) TAIHAPE, May 15. On the picturesque links al Raukura, Taihape and Taumarunui goiters tried conclusions at the royal and ancient game during the week-end, the occasion being the first inter-club match of the season, the handsome Cascade Cup was at stake, the first six players in each team competing for this trophy which was retained by the Taihape Club. Four-ball matches were played in the morning, and singles in the afternoon, the majority ot the games being won by tne Taihape players. In the Cascade Cup competition Taihape won live matches and halved two, while Taumarunui had two wins and two halves. Taihape won most of the other games also, and proved too strong for the visitors on the day. The Taumarunui players were officially welcomed by the piejdenl of the Taihape Golf Club, Mr. ±'. Reece, who thanked the visitors lor making the trip to Tainape and hoped that they had enjoyed themselves. Mr. .Reece said that Taihape would take ' the Cascade Cup to Taumarunui at a later date, and would be pleased to give Taumarunui a chance ot competing for the trophy on their own links, providing of course, taihape withstood challenges in the meantime. The president of the Taiiiapc Golf Club took the opportunity ot thanking the ladies of tne Taihape Club for providing morning and afternoon tea and luncheon, and added that their efforts in this connection were greatly appreciated. Mr. Lindsay, president ot the Taumarunui Club, also thanked the Taihape ladies for their hospitality. He hoped that Taihape would send a team to Taumarunui before long, and could assure the Taihape Cluo that the Taumarunui players would return with pleasant recollections of the visit to Taihape. Results are as follows, Taihape players being mentioned first in each instance: — Cascade Cup. Four-ball Games: Mortland and Kincaid haivtd with Craig and Johnston; Seccombe and McClure defeated H. K. ana L. G. Spencer; Jones and Somerville defeated Ross and Moresby. Singles.—Mortland defeated Craig, McClure lost to Johnston, Seccombe defeated H. K. Spencer, Kincaid defeated L. G. Spencer, Jones lost to Moresby, Somerville halved with Ross. Taihape; Five wins and two halves. Taumarunui: Two wins and two halves. Other Games Four-ball.—O'Callaghan ami Hewetson defeated Bestic and Bone, Auld and Reece defeated Lindsay and Mcknight; Joblin and Berridge defeated Cowern and Rigby; McKenzie and Willis defeated Robbie and Strange; Olliver and Spooner defeated Buckland and Deadman. McWilliam and Duncan halved with McGlinn and Hall. Singles. O'Callaghan defeated Bestic, Hewetson lost to Bone, Auid defeated Lindsay, Reece defeated MeKnight, Joblin lost to Cowern, Berridge defeated Rigby, McKenzie defeated Robbie, Willis lost to Strange, Wylie lost to Buckland, Spooner defeated Deadman, McWilliam defeated McGlinn, Duncan lost to Han.
