1 BURNING DOWN OF WHARE REQUEST FOR PROBATION TO BE CONSIDERED I j ' Because he bot some fleas on him in this house he decided to burn it down, said Mr. Justice Ostler in the I Wanganui Supreme Court, when considering an arson charge against Ronald Juan McLennan, of Taihape. Expressing a doubt whether lie should grant probation, His Honoui deterred until to-day sentence on MeLcnnan. i Mr. J. Hussey, who represented the prisoner, called Mr. T. G. Kincaid, solicitor, of Taihape. Mr. Kincaid said McLennan had been an active member of the Taihape Swimming Club for many years and had been instrumental in many school children learning to swim. McLennan was also interested in other sports in which he had done excellent work. Mr. Hussey described prisoner’s act as a ‘‘stupid one” and he would have to face his civil liability in paying damages. Counsel asked for probation. Mr. Justice Ostler said lie was very doubtful about granting probation. The crime showed an impudent disregard for the property of other people. Because he got some fleas on him in this house he decided to burn it down. His Honour decided to remanu prisoner in custody until to-day ana intimated that he would thinK the matter over in the meantime.
