ESTIMATES ADOPTED RATE LEVY INCREASED RETURN TO 1937 LEVEL ‘‘ln view of the general increase in costs the board has had to restore the levy imposed in 1936-37,” comimented the chairman, Mr. N. G. Arm'strong, at yesterday’s meeting of the Wanganui Harbour Board, when the estimates were under discussion. The levy on local bodies this year would bring in £20,890, compared with £lB,280 last year and £21,245 the previous year. The board’s levy revenue would be down £350 on 1936-37 with the same levy. The levy on the Wanganui City Council will be 16-25 d, which will produce £15,352 after allowing three per cent, for collecting the rates, compared with 14.25 d last year, which produced £13,389. In 1936-37, when the levy was also 16.25 d, the amount collected was £15,211. The levy for the Wanganui County Council is 8-25 d, which will produce £2438. Last year the rate levy was 7-25'd and the amount collected £2133. Tne levy and collection in 1936-37 were the same as estimated for the current year. In the Waitotara County council's district it is proposed to make a levy of 8-25 d, which will yield £2394. Last year the rate levy was 7-25 d «nd the collection £2095, and in 1936-37 the collection was £2820. The Waimanno (County will also pay a levy of 8-250 but will pay only £2B compared with I £26 last year. ■ The totals are as follow: Capital value, £9,753,245 (£10,053,495 in 1936-37). Levy, 1936-37, £21,245. i The estimates, which were adopted without hesitation, provide for a total revenue of £40,510, the chief item being £21,500 from wharfage. The revenue from shipping is estimated at ;£9415, including £2400 as ships' uues, l £3400 as port dues, and £3OOO from pilotage. The revenue from the wool I store is estimated at £2OOO.
