CAUSE OF PEACE
IRONIC HUMOUR IN DUCE’S SPEECH. Received May 15, 11.5 pm. LONDON, May 15. The Daily Telegraph, commenting editorially on the Duce’s speech, says: "There is certainly bitter ironic humour in the circumstances that the democracies are reproached with not being sincerely devoted to the cause of peace by a leader who boasts of the subjugation of Abyssinia and the • union" of Albania and Italy. The democracies certainly are guilty of organising the defence of their independence and freedom, but even in the distorting mirror of the Duce’s argument that act can hardly be made to look aggressive, except to those i hreatening their independence."
