OPENING OF RANGIWAHIA SCHOOL

(Own Correspondent). RANGIWAHIA, May 15. Mr. E. B. Gordon, M.P., attended the official opening on Friday, May 12, of the new school at Rangiwahia. The Hon. P. Fraser performed the opening ceremony. Among the speakers were Mr. Gordon, M.P. tor Rangitikei; Mr. Hodge, architect for the Wanganui Education Board; Mr. Boshier,-chairman of the school Committee, and Mr. Hemingway, chairman of the Education sioard. On Saturday night, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon also attended the social evening in the Rangiwahia Hall. At this function, which was part of the school jubilee celebrations, Mr. Gordon gave a short address, making special mention of the wonderful part piayed by the early settlers of the Rangiwahia district. He said that while the whole district was rejoicing over the handsome new school building just opened, it must be remembered that but for the hard work and initiative of the pioneers such a school would probably not exist to-day. He also assured the present pupils that they owed a debt of gratitude to those who had brought the district to its present high standard, and stressed the fact that in its day the old school had been a matter for rejoicing just as the new one was to-day.
