HIGHLAND DANCING
TOKAANU. SPORTS TAIHAPE SUCCESSES (Own Correspondent) TAIHAPE, April 26. Three children from Taihape, Greta iSmith, Jean Newport, and Colin Mortland competed in the Highland dancing events at the Tokaanu sports last Saturday and carried off numerous prizes although competition was very keen, competitors being present from as far distant as Rotorua and Taumarunui. Greta Smith and Jean Newport competed in the open class, 12 i'years and under 14, and gained prizes ‘as follows: ( Greta Smith. —Ist. Shean Triubhas; ■ Ist, Irish Jig; 3rd, Highland Fling, and ■a special prize (cup) for execution in ; the sword dance. | The following prizes were won by ; Jean Newport.—2nd, Highland Fling; I 2nd, Sword Dance; 2nd. Sailor's HornIpipe; 3rd, Shean Triubhas. | Colin Mortland competed in the I open class (9 years and under 12) and ■ was first in the sword dance and third I in the Shean Triubhas. ] At the previous meeting, held about ! three months ago, Natalie May won a ; medal for the most promising dancer.
